Descriptions
Holotype anterior end only, 25 chaetigers, length 2.3mm, greatest width without parapodia 0.22 mm. No color. Prostomium more than twice as long as wide, anterior margin convex. Four eyes in wide trapezoidal arrangement on posterior half of prostomium. Palps broad and lobular, fused at base. Median antenna broken, inserted between posterior pair of eyes, Lateral antennae fusiform, slightly longer than prostomium, inserted on anterior third of prostomium. Peristomium not completely separated from prostomium, slightly shorter than first chaetiger. Dorsal tentacular cirri club-shaped to fusiform, about as long as the lateral antennae, ventral ones shorter. Dorsal cirri of first chaetiger about as long as the segment's width, indistinctly articulated, remaining dorsal cirri articulated with 4-6 articles each. Ventral cirri cirriform, posteriorly filiform and indistinctly articulated, slightly longer than parapodial lobe.
Acicula distally knobbed, slightly enlarged in chaetigers 2-6.
Slightly enlarged compound chaetae with stout triangular blades in chaetigers 2-6. First parapod with short but slender blades.
From chaetiger 7 onwards blades becoming longer towards posterior end, dorsal ones moderately long, all serrated and distally bifid. Number of special chaetae in chaetigers 2-6 up to 13, afterwards reduced down to 6 posteriorly.
Dorsal simple chaeta from chaetiger 1, finely serrated on lower margin, distally with oval membrane.
Pharynx broad, unarmed. Proventriculus from chaetiger 5 through 9, with 35 muscle cell rows.
S. latipalpa and S. varians also possess well developed broad palps. S. varians has however pointed palps and the aciculae are enlarged in the first 20 chaetigers. S. latipalpa has no enlarged acicula in the 6th parapod and the shape of the chaetae are different. The compound chaetae with stout blades are present in chaetigers 1-4.
